This dialogos session will feature work emerging from the Humanities Center Faculty Research Seminar, “In Search of the Secular.” Lori Pearson will present her research on religion, secularization, and the politics of gender in the early 20th century, and Carolyn Fure-Slocum will discuss definitions of religion, secularity, and pluralism and their relevance for liberal arts campuses. These talks will also engage the work of nationally known scholar Janet Jakobsen (Barnard College) who will be giving a public talk and faculty seminar at Carleton on religion, gender, and the secular on February 2 and 3.
