LTC Lunch: Ethically Navigating the Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics

In a world increasingly “awash in numbers,” researchers face new challenges in ensuring that the data they use is collected, stored, and communicated in an ethical manner. All these numbers may present educated citizens with a moral obligation to gain a clear understanding of the data that impacts critical decisions. This panel of campus experts will introduce current issues and lead discussion about how we can better educate faculty members and students about the data choices they make. Co-sponsored by QuIRK. Rich Graves, senior Unix administrator and network security administrator; Daniel Groll, assistant professor of philosophy; David Liben-Nowell, associate professor of computer science; Christopher Tassava, associate director of corporate and foundation relations and chair of the Institutional Review Board
