The paintings, print and theater pieces of Roger Shimomura address socio-political issues of Asian America. His bold, illustration-like artwork deals with Asian stereotypes and prejudices, and often references his family history. A Japanese American, Shimomura was born in Seattle at the start of World War II and spent the first years of his life with his family in an internment camp. He is currently is Distinguished Professor of Performance and Painting at the University of Kansas. The title of his presentation is "The 63 Stages of the Yellow Brick Road."
